Its capital and largest city is Nur-Sultan, formerly known as Astana. Kazakhstan is the world's largest landlocked country and has a diverse landscape, including vast steppes, mountains, and deserts. The country has a rich history, with nomadic tribes, the Mongol Empire, and the Soviet Union all leaving their mark on its culture and society. The economy of Kazakhstan is largely based on its vast reserves of natural resources, including oil, gas, and minerals such as copper and gold. The country has also developed a growing manufacturing sector, particularly in the areas of automotive and construction equipment. Kazakhstan is a presidential republic, with a President as the head of state and a Prime Minister as the head of government. The official languages are Kazakh and Russian, and the majority of the population is Kazakh, with significant Russian and other minority populations. Kazakhstan is known for its welcoming culture and hospitality, as well as its traditional crafts such as carpet weaving and embroidery. The country is also home to several important cultural landmarks, including the Mausoleum of Khoja Ahmed Yasawi in Turkestan, a UNESCO World Heritage site.
