Metis

Metis is one of Jupiter's moons and is listed first because it has the smallest numerical designation. It was discovered by astronomer Stephen P. Synnott in 1979 using data from the Voyager 1 spacecraft. Metis is a small moon with a diameter of about 40 km and orbits Jupiter at a distance of about 128,000 km. It takes Metis just under 8 hours to complete one orbit around Jupiter. Metis is one of the four inner moons of Jupiter and is part of a group known as the "Amalthea group", which also includes Adrastea, Amalthea, and Thebe.
