Voyager 1 is a space probe launched by NASA in 1977 as part of the Voyager program. Its primary mission was to study the outer Solar System, including Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune. After completing its primary mission, Voyager 1 continued to travel beyond the outer Solar System and is currently the farthest human-made object from Earth. It is now in interstellar space, where it is continuing to send back data about the environment beyond our Solar System. Some of the notable achievements of Voyager 1 include the first detailed observations of the rings of Jupiter and the discovery of active volcanoes on Jupiter's moon Io. It also discovered many new features of Saturn's rings and revealed the first detailed images of Uranus and Neptune. Voyager 1 is powered by a radioisotope thermoelectric generator (RTG), which generates electricity from the heat produced by the decay of radioactive isotopes. It is expected to continue transmitting data back to Earth until its RTG's power supply degrades to the point where it can no longer operate its scientific instruments.
