Sunil Gavaskar is a former Indian cricketer and one of the greatest opening batsmen in the history of cricket. He was born on July 10, 1949, in Bombay, India. Gavaskar made his debut for the Indian cricket team in 1971 and went on to have a highly successful career, scoring 10,122 runs in Test matches and 3,092 runs in One Day Internationals. He was the first player in the history of cricket to score 10,000 runs in Test matches, and he held the record for the most Test centuries (34) until it was broken by Sachin Tendulkar. Gavaskar was known for his technical proficiency and ability to bat for long periods of time, often facing some of the best bowlers in the world. He was also an exceptional fielder, known for his agility and quick reflexes. After retiring from cricket, Gavaskar became a highly respected cricket commentator and analyst. He was also a member of the ICC Cricket Committee and served as the chairman of the BCCI's Technical Committee. He has been awarded numerous honors for his contributions to Indian cricket, including the Padma Bhushan and the Padma Shri.
