Sourav Ganguly is a former Indian cricketer and captain of the Indian cricket team. He was born on July 8, 1972, in Kolkata, West Bengal, India. Ganguly is regarded as one of the greatest Indian cricket captains of all time, having led the team to a number of historic victories in both Tests and One Day Internationals (ODIs). He was a left-handed batsman and a right-arm medium-fast bowler. Ganguly made his debut for the Indian cricket team in 1992 and went on to play 113 Tests and 311 ODIs for India. He scored 7,212 runs in Tests at an average of 42.17 and 11,363 runs in ODIs at an average of 41.02. Ganguly was also a useful bowler, taking 32 wickets in Tests and 100 wickets in ODIs. In addition to his on-field achievements, Ganguly is also credited with transforming the Indian cricket team's mindset and attitude towards winning. He took over as captain in 2000 and led the team to a series of victories, including a historic Test series win in Pakistan in 2004. Ganguly's leadership style was aggressive and he was known for backing his players, which helped to build a strong team spirit in the Indian team. After retiring from cricket, Ganguly has remained involved in the sport as a commentator, analyst, and administrator. He served as the President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) from 2019 to 2020.
