Naiad is the innermost moon of Neptune and is the closest to the planet. It was discovered in 1989 by the Voyager 2 spacecraft during its flyby of the Neptune system. Naiad is a small, irregularly shaped moon that measures about 58 kilometers (36 miles) across its longest dimension. It orbits Neptune at a distance of about 48,000 km (30,000 miles) and completes one orbit in about 7 hours and 3 minutes. Not much is known about Naiad's surface features or composition, as it has only been observed from a distance by the Voyager 2 and the Hubble Space Telescope.
